These awards are given to a talented group of individuals who seek to inform, provoke and entertain the architecture profession and public alike on the expansive subject of architecture.

DANDENONG HOSPITAL` EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT AND MENTAL HEALTH

We have just completed two new buildings for Dandenong Hospital, Victoria. The Emergency Department and the first stage of the Mental Health Facility department buildings have opened to the public this month. The second stage is due for completion in Oct 2012.

Directors Sheree Proposch and Kristen Whittle and Associate Directors Kevin Masci and Eugene Cheah led a team of dedicated health planners, architects and interior designers with an ambitious desire to rewrite the design rules for a public hospital.

The project presented an opportunity to provide a key public service to the community by creating a piece of high-quality Public and Social Infrastructure.

BATES SMART PEOPLE `PAUL PURCELL

Paul Purcell, Associate Director, joined Bates Smart in 1977 and soon became the principal project leader for commercial interior projects at Bates Smart.

During his 35 year Bates Smart career, Paul has managed the fitouts for a number of significant corporations and has built successful and enduring relationships with these organisations, consultants, project managers and contractors.

WOMEN IN ARCHITECTURE STUDY LAUNCHED

Equity and Diversity in the Australian Architecture Profession: Women, Work and Leadership

Women have been an active and highly successful part of the architecture profession in Australia for more than a hundred years, however they remain dramatically under represented at senior management level and in professional leadership roles.

Bates Smart is one of five industry partners behind a research study aimed at understanding the issues surrounding this under representation and to propose intiatives towards change.
